Canes Player Lists

This site is for testing/development/documenting the Canes Players Lists features using WP Import All & FacetWP.

The player list feature allows importing csv files containing player rosters and adds each player to the Rosters post type in the Dashboard. Additionally, custom pages can be created to display searchable/sortable lists.

How to enable the Player List features
To use these features, make sure the site has these plugins activated and configured as follows:

Site Config Requirements

  • FacetWP plugin activated
  • WP All Import plugin activated
  • Customizer>Site Identity>Expanded Rosters Fields set to On
  • Add a Player Roster Template file to the Roster post type. This is needed to configure the field names for the import process.

FacetWP Import Settings

Go to the Dashboard > Settings > FacetWP > Settings panel, then select Import/Export and import the FacetWP Import Settings below:

WP All Import Templates

Go to the Dashboard > All Import > Settings panel, then select Choose File from the Import Templates option
Save the content below as a text file to use as the import file:

Go to the Dashboard >Roster then click Add New Team Member button. Update the player page with the following content:

Note: Weight should be numeric only (ie 175). Height should be formatted as: 5’11.

Import Process
Currently the data will need to be imported twice for each file so that all the fields are updated. Typically, the Team Type will not get imported on the first import.

First Import

  • Go to Dashboard > All Import > New Import

    New Import view
  • Select “Upload a File” and select a csv file
  • After file is selected then Select “New Items“
  • From “Create new” list select “Roster“
  • Click “Continue to Step 2“

    Review Import view
  • If the data displayed in “Review Import File” looks good click “Continue to Step 3” otherwise click “Back to Step 1” and choose a different file.

  • On the Step 3 “Drag & Drop” view scroll to the bottom and select the template named “Player Import includes college“
  • After that loads it should update all the fields with the correct field inputs
  • Expand the “Taxonomies, Categories, Tags” section and in the “Type” area.
  • Change the team name to match what is needed for this roster. (ie 17U National – Summer)
  • Then click “Continue to Step 4”

    Import Settings view
  • Change the unique identifier to use this format: first + last + uniform + team id
    Example: {firstname[1]}{lastname[1]}{uniform[1]}u17ns
    Replace the team id “u17ns” with something that is unique to this roster such as the abbreviated roster name
  • Change the import options so only the “Create new roster from records newly present in this import file” is selected.
  • Click “Continue”

    Confirm & Run view
  • Click “Confirm & Run Import”
  • When the import is complete go to the Roster post type and confirm the players were added. If successful, then continue to the Second Import.

Second Import

  • Go to Dashboard > All Import > New Import

    New Import view
  • Select “Upload a File” and select the same file as first import.
  • After file is selected then select “Existing Items”
  • From “Import to existing” select “Roster”
  • Click “Continue to Step 2”

    Review Import view
  • If the data displayed in “Review Import File” looks good click “Continue to Step 3” otherwise click “Back to Step 1” and choose a different file.

    Drag & Drop view
  • On the Step 3 “Drag & Drop” view scroll to the bottom and select the template named

  • Confirm the team name matches what was used for the first import. They must be identical.
  • Click “Continue to Step 4”

    Import Settings view
  • In the top section only “Title” should be selected
  • Change the import settings so only the “Update existing roster with the data in this import file” is selected. Don’t change the child selections of this setting.
  • Click “Continue”

    Confirm & Run view
  • Click “Confirm & Run Import”
  • When the import is complete go to the Roster post type and confirm all the fields have been updated
